Richard T. DeLorm Scholarship

FINANCIAL AWARDS: One $1500.00 award is available through the Nebraska Chapter of ACI for graduate study in concrete construction for the upcoming academic year.

REQUIREMENTS: This award is open to any student in the State of Nebraska completing studies toward the bachelor degree or one who has received a bachelor degree from a higher education institute which is accredited by the responsible regional or national agency.   The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Must have possession of a bachelor degree from an accredited program by the summer of 2019.

  • At the time of acceptance of the award (but not necessarily at the time of application) the applicant must have been accepted for graduate study.  This graduate study must be in an engineering, architectural, or materials science program at an accredited college or university in the State of Nebraska which offers a graduate program in concrete design, materials, or construction.

  • Must be a full-time graduate student during the entire award year.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION: Application forms may be obtained from the Nebraska Chapter American Concrete Institute, Inc., 1425 W. 9th St. Fremont, NE 68025, or downloaded from the web site (www.acinebraska.org).  Completed applications must be received no later than Friday, December 21, 2018.  Announcement of the awards will be made at the Nebraska Chapter Annual Meeting in February 2019.

Anyone who is completing or has completed studies for the bachelor's degree from an accredited program may apply for these awards.  Based on submitted data, and recommendations, the Education Committee of the Nebraska Chapter of ACI will select scholarship recipients who appear to have the strongest combination of interest and ability to work in concrete construction.  Each scholarship consists of a cash stipend of $1500.00, made in one payment to the student.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The applicant shall meet the following criteria, and shall submit or provide the following information:

  1. Possess a bachelor degree from a higher education institution which is accredited by the responsible regional or national agency before the start of the next academic year (and not necessarily at the time of application).

  2. Be accepted for graduate study at an accredited college or university in an engineering, architectural and/or materials science program in the area of concrete where design, materials, construction or any combination thereof is offered, at the time of acceptance of the fellowship (and not necessarily at the time of application).

  3. Be a full-time first or second-year graduate student (after bachelor degree) during the entire award year.

The application must be typewritten.  The application must be accompanied by undergraduate and graduate records of academic performance.

Statements of appraisal of the applicant in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity, and career interest from three evaluators are required; at least one must be from a faculty member.  The statements of appraisal must be returned directly to the Nebraska Chapter of ACI Education Committee by each evaluator.  Recommendations sent to the Chapter by the applicant will not be accepted.  Applicants must ensure that the Chapter is in receipt of these appraisals prior to the application.
